I put in a new perennial, Lobellia, this year. I hadn't heard of it before, and I needed something that would do well in shade, so my friendly local grower suggested it.
Look at the bloom! Love it!! Thanks Michael!
And here are the mystery orchids that have appeared under my clump birch tree. They are teeny tiny but beautiful.
They say we have had one of the wettest Junes on record. Funny, I don't remember it being so rainy. I feel like the weather has been so nice for so long, I can't believe it's only the beginning of July! Promises of a beautiful sunny and warm weekend have been made-let's hope they're right.
When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light.
For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
